We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Conservation Strategy Director
Location:Â Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Position Description
- We are seeking a self-driven Conservation Strategy Director who can make a significant impact on environmental conservation, afforestation, and sustainable green initiatives.
- As the ideal candidate, you will have the opportunity to shape and implement strategic plans that contribute to the restoration of ecosystems, combat climate change, and promote green tourism.
- Your passion for environmental sustainability and innovative approaches will drive positive change for AG and the communities we serve.
Purpose
- As the Conservation Strategy Director, your primary purpose is to lead AG’s strategic initiatives, ensuring the effective planning, development, promotion, and management of green initiatives.
- You will play a key role in positioning AG as a thought leader in forest conservation, afforestation, and sustainable practices.
- Through your work, you will inspire and mobilize communities, youth, and stakeholders to contribute to AG’s mission of preserving and restoring ecological processes.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Strategic Planning and Development:
- Develop and implement strategic plans and concept notes aligned with AG’s mission and objectives.
- Work with key stakeholders to explore collaboration opportunities in environmental conservation.
Project Management:
- Oversee the planning and development of green areas, open spaces, and conservation zones.
- Lead initiatives related to afforestation, tree planting, and conservation activities.
Thought Leadership:
- Position AG as a thought leader in forest conservation and afforestation.
- Organize and contribute to thought leadership forums addressing environmental issues.
Sustainability Approach:
- Design and implement sustainability approaches, including youth programs for environmental education.
- Collaborate with schools, communities, and youth groups to promote awareness and sustainable practices.
Partnership Development:
- Foster partnerships with environmental conservation agencies, institutions, and organizations.
- Seek corporate sponsorship and development funding for environmental initiatives.
Forest Immersion Therapy (FIT) Programs:
- Develop and implement FIT programs to promote well-being and green tourism.
- Collaborate with tourism agencies, map forest locations, and curate FIT activities for different target groups.
Urban City Forest Advocacy:
- Advocate for urban city forest awareness and action in major cities.
- Establish a community of practice around urban city forest advocacy.
Community Green Initiatives:
- Identify and support communities with environmental challenges or green assets.
- Mobilize, educate, and train Community Action Groups to address environmental challenges.
Youth Capacity Building:
- Implement youth-centric programs focused on leadership development and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with educational institutions, organize training sessions, conferences, and workshops for young conservation leaders.
Communication and Advocacy:
- Coordinate communication strategies, including new media, to disseminate knowledge.
- Lead advocacy efforts, campaigns, and community service initiatives to address environmental challenges.
Experience, Skills and Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, Sustainability, or related field. Applicants from other fields with demonstrated experience in environmental conservation can also apply.
- Experience in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong knowledge of environmental conservation, green tourism, and sustainability practices is required.
- Experience in youth development programs is advantageous.
- Early career candidates with passion for environmental conservation are encouraged to apply.
- Proficient in English (both written and verbal). Fluency in major local languages in Nigeria is an asset.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.
- Innovative and creative problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
