Advocacy for Resilience and Innovative Solutions for Youths, Women, and Children Empowerment (ARISE Youths, Women, and Children) is a women-led, non-profit organization dedicated to transforming prolonged hardships caused by insurgency, natural disasters, and economic challenges into pathways for growth and renewal. ARISE is committed to amplifying voices, providing protection, and empowering marginalized, distressed, and displaced individuals to build resilient and self-sufficient futures.
ARISE is actively involved in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through various focus areas but not limited to, Poverty alleviation, zero hunger, health, education, clean water and sanitation, gender equality, environment and climate change, girls’ and women’s empowerment, and Social and Economic Advancement. By developing innovative programs focused on training, skills acquisition, advocacy, and access to financial services, our efforts aim to reduce dependency on limited relief assistance, harnessing resilience mechanisms, and leveraging local resources at the individual, family, and community levels. We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Program Volunteer
Location:Â Maiduguri, Borno
Employment Type: Volunteer
Purpose of the Role
- Volunteers at ARISE Youths, Women and Children play a vital role in supporting our various projects and initiatives. By dedicating their time, skills, and passion, volunteers contribute directly to improving the lives of vulnerable populations, fostering community engagement, and promoting sustainable development practices.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support:
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community development projects.
- Support project activities such as workshops, training sessions, and community meetings.
- Help with logistics coordination for events and field activities.
Community Engagement:
- Engage with beneficiaries and community members to understand their needs and aspirations.
- Facilitate communication between the organization and local stakeholders.
- Promote community participation and ownership in project activities.
Advocacy and Outreach:
- Assist in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about social issues and promote sustainable practices.
- Participate in outreach activities to recruit beneficiaries and volunteers for programs.
Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge and strong interest in areas such as education, healthcare, MHPSS, WASH, nutrition, GBV, women and girls’ empowerment, women’s sexual and reproductive health, environment, and livelihoods.
- Excellent ability to communicate information and ideas in writing and speaking so others will easily understand
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and basic internet research skills.
- Passion for community development and social impact.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Flexibility-Ability to adapt to difficult situations (e.g. unforeseen change in context)
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse perspectives.
Preferred Skills: (not required but beneficial)
- Previous experience in volunteering, community service, or non-profit organizations.
